Better U: How it all Started

Good morning fam!

I had the chance to sit down with Dr. Ace—the amazing founder of Better U Family Chiropractic. It was such a fun and inspiring conversation. I got to learn more about how Better U came to be, what it really stands for, and the heart behind everything they do. From the meaning behind the name to how the whole wellness center vibe started, Dr. Ace talks about it all.

Why the name Better U?

 The name Better U Family Chiropractic came from Dr. Ace’s vision of creating a space where, the moment someone hears the name, they feel like they’re on the path to becoming a better version of themselves. When I hear "Better U," I immediately think of an upgrade physically, or mentally because getting better isn’t just about the body, it’s about the mind too.

Oh, why are Better U’s colors blue, red and yellow? If you couldn’t tell, they’re a tribute to Dr. Ace’s Filipino roots—something really close to her heart. The little details of the 3 stars on the left side, and the yellow circle representing the sun. 

Who inspires you?

 Dr. Ace’s biggest inspirations are her parents Allen & Yvette Alejandro, her husband Herman, and her three kids Eli, Zach, and Noah. They’re the driving force behind everything she does.

Did you always plan on opening a wellness center, or was it just going to be chiropractic? Also, what exactly is a wellness center?

When Dr. Ace first graduated, the plan was just chiropractic. She started out in a local gym and somewhere along the way, other services just started to fall into place. It wasn’t planned from the start—it just slowly started happening. Now, the idea of Better U as a full-blown wellness center keeps evolving. Strength and nutrition programs might even be coming soon—so stay tuned!

At the core of it all, her goal has always been to help as many people as possible, one treatment at a time. And what really sets her apart is how open-minded she is. She sees opportunities everywhere if not they just kind of fall into her lap. Even if something doesn’t work out, she’d rather say she tried than wonder “what if.”

What makes Better U different?

 We’re inspired by how athletes care for their bodies. Instead of copying what other wellness centers are doing, we focus on innovation—always looking for ways to level up. Dr. Ace’s love of sports really drives that mindset.

On the team side, it’s the high standards we all carry, the attention to detail, and the culture we’ve built that really make Better U stand out.

Looking back, did you ever imagine expanding to four locations? 

Not at all. Back when we opened our first location in Linden, we were just focused on helping as many people as we could. To think that we’ve grown to four locations in just six years—it’s been a wild and amazing ride.

If there’s one thing you want people to take away from this interview, what would it be? 

No matter what journey you’re starting a business, working on fitness goals, finishing school just have hope. You never know what the future holds, but if you stay hopeful, chances are you'll end up in a better place than where you started.
